Masonry
Masonry
Masonry is a skill that can only be learned by Grandmaster Carpenters. Learning the art of masonry does not cost any skill points, and has no effect on a character's skill cap.
To learn how to craft stone, a carpenter must read the book "Making Valuables with Stonecrafting", which can be purchased from the Obsidian vendor located in front of Lord British's castle. The book costs 8,000 Obsidian coins, and is consumed once read.
To create stone items, the resource High Quality Granite and a Mallet and Chisel is needed. These tools can be purchased from the a Tinker's shop. Just like other tools, a mallet and chisel can wear be worn out after usage.
High quality granite is obtained by mining with a Stone Mining Pickaxe. This pickaxe can be purchased from the Obsidian vendor located in front of Lord British's castle. The pickaxe costs 5,000 Obsidian coins, and only has 15 charges.

Mining High Quality Granite
To begin mining for granite, you will need a stone mining pickaxe, and the Mining skills required to mine that ore type. Once you are ready, double-click the stone mining pickaxe and target the cave or mountainside to begin mining. Granite comes in the same color range as ore. Please note that not every piece of granite that you mine up with be the color you seek out; there is a chance of it being that color or normal Iron. See Mining for the list of ore types and the required skills needed.
A Prospector's Tool can help you locate the specific ore you are looking for. These tools are rewards from lower-end Blacksmithing BOD completions.
