Bounty System
When a murder takes place, the victim has a choice whether to put a bounty out on the murderer's head. The victim will receive a gump asking whether the player wishes to place a bounty. Entering a bounty will withdraw the gold for the bounty directly from the victim's bank account and place that gold as a reward for the murderer's head. As such it is only possible to bounty the amount that is in the victim's bank account. A bounty can only be given to a character who is a murderer, the option to apply a bounty will not appear when the victim is killed by a non-murderer.
To give a murder count without applying a bounty, simply enter "0" (or leave the field as is) in the bounty field and press okay. When the bounty is applied, the bounty board (bulletin boards at banks) is updated with the new information about the murderer.
When a murderer with a bounty is killed, the bounty can be claimed by cutting off the murderer's head, and turning in the head to any town guard. The bounty can not be claimed under any of the following circumstances:
- The killer is no longer a murderer.
- The killer is on the same account as the character trying to turn in the head.
- The killer has not received another bounty in 14 days.
- The head is more than 1 hour old.
Bounties will decay from the bounty board in 14 days if the murderer has not received any further bounties in that time. Any bounty on the murderer will be unable to be collected. The bounty information is still there, is will just not display or be able to be collected until the the killer is bountied again.
An example of this behaviour:
- JoePK has a bounty of 10,000gp and is listed on the bounty board with 5 kills.
- JoePK does not murder again for another 14 days. His bounty "decays" due to inactivity, and he is removed from bounty board listings. The bounty is no longer claimable.
- JoePK logs in and murders JohnDoe. JohnDoe sets a bounty of 1000gp on JoePK's head.
- JoePK is relisted on the board and now has a bounty of 11000gp, with 6 kills.
- JoePK leaves his character logged in for 80 hours and drops to 4 kills. Since JoePK is now innocent, the bounty information is removed from the bounty board and the bounty is no longer claimable.
