"Clothes are identity and confidence. They are the disguise the naked beast dons to fool the world." - Tad the Tailor

Training

A sewing kit is required when tailoring. While not required, it is strongly suggested to keep a pair of scissors handy to cut up any clothing you have crafted for additional cloth. You can purchase bolts of cloth in bulk from Tailor NPCs, and leather from Tanner NPCs.

Bulk Order Deeds

Basics

Acquaint yourself with the "Message of the Day" menu.

Type [motd in game and you will be presented with a menu. For BODs, select the bottom tab on the right-hand side. You will see two sections, one for Tailoring, and one for Smithing. In each section, you will see three important counters. They are titled as follows:

  • Next BOD Available
  • Remaining [Tailor/Smith] Flips
  • Next Flip Increment

These counters tell you your account's BOD availability status.

Here is a video of the BOD collection and flipping process, hopefully it is clear enough to understand how things work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHQ-G5Hjg4Y

The rest of this post will elaborate on what was shown in the video.

Collection

To start doing BODs, the first step is of course to collect empty BODs from NPCs, intending to fill them and turn them in for reward. The method to collect BODs works as follows:

  • Character must have 70.1 Tailoring or Blacksmithing to be offered the respective BOD.
  • The BOD type offered must be craftable at the character's skill level (e.g. it is required to have 82.9 Tailoring to have a chance to craft the item "studded bustier," therefore if you have 82.8 or less Tailoring skill, you will not have a chance to be offered a BOD of "studded bustier" type).
  • Only at 100.0 skill will you have a 20% chance to be offered a Large BOD; at 99.9 or lower, you will have a 0% chance at a Large BOD.
  • A BOD can be collected from both the tailor and smith every 5h30m, as shown in the [motd menu.
  • To collect available BOD, an item must be sold to the relevant NPC (Tailoring: "tailor" or "weaver" titles in paperdoll; Smithing: "blacksmith" title).
  • Upon sale of item (I use one bandana for tailoring, and one iron ingot for smithing), you will see a menu pop up offering you the BOD. Click accept, and it will go into your inventory.

Filling & Turn-In for Reward

The next step after collecting the BOD is to fill it!

  • To fill a small BOD, simply craft the item type requested as many times as requested, then combine it with the deed. Upon double clicking the BOD, you will get a menu with an option "Combine this deed with the item requested." * Select this option, then target the item you crafted, or more conveniently, target your character's inventory pack shown in their paperdoll (Alt+P will bring up the paperdoll by default) and it will combine all relevant items your character is carrying. Repeat this as many times as needed for the quantity the BOD requests (10, 15, or 20).
  • Once filled, the small BOD can be turned in for reward, or saved for future combination with a respective Large BOD.
  • To turn in for reward, simply drag & drop the BOD onto the NPC tailor or weaver for tailoring, or blacksmith for smithing. The reward will be placed in your inventory or bank box, depending how large the reward is.

Flipping

The last step in the BODing world is called flipping. You can "flip" BODs in order to increase the variety of BODs you receive. Since the high reward BODs tend to be rare, increasing the number of BODs you are offered logically increases your chances at receiving a rare BOD. Generally, you will choose to flip less desirable BODs in hopes that the new BOD you are offered will be a more desirable one!

  • The flip status is located in [motd as explained above.
  • To flip means: to reset the BOD availability counter by turning in a filled BOD to the NPC for reward.
  • An account is given a default of 4 flip opportunities per 23 hour period.
  • First, make sure that if a BOD is already available that you collect it before proceeding to the next steps. Generally if a BOD will be available shortly anyway (less than an hour or two), it is best to wait that time and collect that free BOD before doing flips; waiting is not necessary however.
  • Upon turning in a filled BOD, you will notice the "Next BOD Available" counter will change its status to "Now" and that your "Remaining [Tailor/Smith] Flips" will decrement by 1.
  • At this point you should sell an item to collect a fresh BOD, which will set the timer back to 5h30m.
  • Repeat these last two steps until your "Remaining [Tailor/Smith] Flips" is at 0.
  • Each flip is reset to available 23 hours after last used.
  • You can purchase Flip Increment Deeds from the platinum vendor for 25 platinum coins. This will permanently increase your daily flip opportunities by 1.

Rewards

There is a special collection of Bulk Order Deeds available for Tailors to fill out. Returning these provides specially colored cloth, sandals, and other items as rewards.

Ancient Tailoring Needles

An ancient tailoring needle can be purchased from a vendor located in Britain at the gates to Lord British's castle for 25 platinum coins. To use the ancient tailoring needle, you simply need to equip it to your paperdoll, then begin crafting with a sewing kit in your backpack.

  • Increases Tailoring skill by 25.0%
  • 600 uses/charges
