Fishing

"I started fishing because I thought it would be a quick and easy way to make some money. I didn't have many skills back then. I figured I could always get enough to feed myself. Well, I went hungry the first few days, but I stuck it out. And then one day I understood the whole point. The goal is not to catch a fish. It's to fish."

"You stand on the bank of a river, or at the quiet edge of a bridge, and you look out at the water. You can feel your thoughts slow down, become all polished and smooth like a pebble. The best way I can describe it is that you begin to watch yourself think. A thought flows up, unwinds, and floats down. And then you have a nice dinner, sell the rest of your catch, and wait until the next chance you can get away and watch the water flow past."

Fishing

Fishing is a gathering skill that allows you to fish fishes, magical fishes, level 1 treasure maps and messages in a bottle. Furthermore you can fish for treasures and other items from shipwrecks, once you got the message out of a bottle and are located at the right spot. Unlike other tools, fishing poles do not wear out and disappear after a certain number of uses. Fishing is also a great accompaniment to the skill Cooking.

In order to fish, you must not be mounted and you should be holding a Fishing Pole in one hand.

Training

Before training you will need to obtain a bulk amount shovels or pickaxes.

  • 0.0 - 30.0: Train from NPC Fisherman
  • 30.1 - 100.0: Fish!

Note: You can GM fishing from the shore. Unattended fishing from the shore is permitted. Unattended fishing off the shore is prohibited.

Boats

Boats will be used in order to fish in the deep seas, and can be purchased from shipwrights, or from a provisioner's shop.

Additionally:

  • Items do not decay on boats, however it is still possible for impassible objects such as wooden or metal chests to break when navigating around monsters in the open seas
  • Items can also be grabbed from other players if they are too close to the edge of your boat
  • Telekinesis can be casted upon a ship's hull to view the contents. If you leave a marked rune or ship key here, it can be targeted with the spell Recall
  • Be sure to keep an extra key inside of your bank, or in safe storage

Notes

Unattended macroing fishing from the shore is permitted

Unattended macroing fishing in deep-waters is illegal on this shard (as well as other resource gathering skills)

You do not need to be fisherman to fish up the treasure from a message in a bottle

Raw fish steaks is a popular food source to feed frenzied ostards when their stamina has been depleted
