BASIC CHARACTER CREATION
From the character selection screen click ‘New’ to create your first UO Lost Lands character. Our shard allows 5 characters per account. Unlike most traditional MMO’s Ultima Online is not restricted by class, you have a great deal of flexibility when building your characters. The final character you build is defined by 700 skill-points and 225 attribute points (Str, Dex, Int). You may allocate these points however you like (up to a max of 100 points). Skills and stats can also be changed at any time, so don’t be afraid to experiment.

STR = health pool / increases weight limit
INT = mana pool (required for casting magical spells)
DEX = stamina pool / weapon speed

Choose a Trade for your Character
Choosing a trade  simply means you’ll be given some pre-allocated skill/attribute points to get you started, and as with any new character you’ll receive items based on the type of trade you’ve chosen e.g. a ’Warrior’ will start with 35 Swords, 50 Tactics, some bandages and a practice weapon. The Advanced option lets you create your own starting template, and enables you to allocate 80 attribute points to your character as well as divide 100 skill points into any three skills available in the game. Note, you will also be given starting equipment based on the skills you select for this character. Choosing advanced also lets you pick the town you start in (the most popular town is Britain).

POPULAR T2A CHARACTER TEMPLATES
Here are some examples of popular character templates

WARRIOR
The warrior in Ultima Online is a great beginners class. The warrior utilizes strength and speed in weapon attacks, while having great defense by using shields, armor and resisting spells. Warriors will heal themselves using bandages, which are inexpensive and very effective at healing. A warrior can resurrect other players with bandages as opposed to magery.

The pure warrior will want to utilize potions in battle, to cure themselves, refresh stamina or replenish a few hit points in dire situations. An advanced warrior can use magically charged defensive items to make themselves extremely formidable in PvP.

TANK MAGE
The tank mage is a glass cannon which can deal incredible amounts of damage in a short time. The tank mage is an absolute staple of the T2A era, many believing them to be overpowered - however many an advanced warrior have shown this not to be true. During the T2A era, hally mages utilize the slow swinging, yet high damaging halberd to get in extra hit points of damage alongside their spells. However, with little to nothing in the way of armored protection, the tank mage will need to utilize mobility to avoid taking large amounts of damage from fast-hitting warriors.

The tank mage is primarily a PvP template, and not very effective at killing monsters compared to bards and animal tamers. Even the warrior is arguably a better fighter, although the warrior has a very hard time dealing with some of the larger monsters. A tank mage can slay these monster types by utilizing 8th circle summons.

THIEF
The life of a thief is largely a game of patience. Through careful timing, or cleverly planned scams, a thief can be the most fearful foe of them all. A thief has the ability to plunder a foolish or unwise person's entire fortune, through sneaking and stealing. Pure thieves can survive well in combat while emptying their opponent's pack of their necessary items, such as reagents, runes and even their weapons. The thief is not so strong in a 1v1 match-up so choose your fights wisely - be prepared to flee and hide if you find yourself being overwhelmed.

Not for the impatient. If you play a thief well, you will likely be hated and your name will be feared.

CRAFTER
In Ultima Online, you can make a living entirely through crafting, without ever raising a blade. Players are always in need of player crafted equipment, and this is where you will come in.

The crafter, or merchant character class will create items that every UO player will always want. Weapons, armor, tools, clothes (and leather armor), bows and arrows, even furniture for houses. A crafter will likely want to set up a player run shop, selling their wares through their player run vendor. Location of your shop and keeping your vendor stocked with in-demand items, will be critical to your success. Ultima Online lives, whether you are logged in or not. Players will always want these items, and will go elsewhere if your vendor is not stocked or has unreasonable prices. Learn your market and thrive.

TREASURE HUNTER
The treasure hunter utilizes cartography, lockpicking and provocation to create a character which can locate hidden treasure, dig it up, lockpick the chest and kill the chest guardians. The treasure hunter doubles as a character which can navigate dungeons, picking chests within to plunder the treasure contained. Obtaining a Grandmaster status in the art of lockpicking and cartography will be necessary to decode and find the most dangerous and profitable of all treasure hunts.

The goal of the mage bard is to make money. Fast, and easily. A mage bard will utilize provocation, combined with mage skills, to make the mage bard very tanky and able to deal high damage to monsters. The mage bard is most useful in any place where multiple, strong monsters spawn, in order to provoke these creatures onto each other and plunder the loot from their corpse. Magery combined with evaluating intelligence means the bard will be able to finish off monsters damaged from battle, with ease.

The tamer can tame dragons, white wyrms and nightmares to do his or her bidding, and taking advantage of magery to gate their new pets around the world. A tamer can have as many pets as they wish, however having too many pets can be a burden when they crowd each other, or your pets begin to ignore your commands.
