Item id
#1
Hey, enjoying this shard tremendously. Currently, item identification is untrainable from npcs. (Or at least the jeweler and mining guildmaster in Vesper).

The skill isn't completely useless, especially if you don't have id wands.

Currently training this from zero. Just wondering if something is broken, or maybe I am missing something.

Glad you're enjoying it!

I took a quick look around the NPCs in the scripts and it appears that the only NPC that trains this is the miner guildmaster. "Merchant" and "Merchant Guildmaster" also train the skill but I'm fairly certain we don't have those spawned. Merchants do spawn as escortables, but escortables will not train you.

The merchant NPC probably should spawn as a random NPC around towns, but I haven't heard of the merchant guildmaster before.

Asking the jeweler in Vesper: "train" lists item identification, but she doesn't train when speaking the normal train function, neither does the miner guildmaster to the west.

Not a big deal, really, since i've got it up to 75 already, and it's not difficult to raise.

Thanks for the input.

One thing: In the bottom level of covetous there is supposed to be a higher levelrotting corpse that spawns in the room with a level 4 dungeon chest. But haven't seen him there at all.

I'm sure you are working on spawns, etc. The room only has skels and zombies.

Unless he is on a slow timer.

Thanks, Jack.

No worries Smile I think maybe you are using the wrong keyword. I'll be reviewing NPC speech and interactions at some point, I have ideas for how to tackle it,but not anytime really soon.

I did put the rotting corpse there in Covetous (and T2A deserts) atfirst, but it turns out rotting corpses are actually a UO:R era monster, so they have been removed.

Just for the record.. I came across a merchant escort, popped out from my GM hiding and billion skill in stealth and asked it to train me. Merchant escorts train in item identification.

I also asked a miner guildmaster to train me and got the item ID response.

"[Name] train" will list the skills the NPC can train you in. If you have more than ~30 in the skill it will not list it as a trainable skill.

I was able to get the NPC to respond with "Ardon train identification". It's a pretty tight phrase to use and I will be looking into having more generalized terms.

Ah. You see, i was typing: "Ardon train item identification"....As that was incorrect. The correct is what you posted. Thank you for that. However, I'm curious: what is the correct phrase for the skill: Taste Identification? Is it also: Identification? or taste identification.

Smile Thank you , Jack, for clarifying this.

One more question regarding checks. I realize that the "check" for 60,000 max gold was implemented in 2000 at the renaissance expansion. I was wondering if you were implementing the check system for higher purchasing amounts, or just easier gold storage?

I meant 60,000 gold per gold stack.

not sure if bank checks will be implemented here, but you can use house deeds as gold storage and for trading on high gold transactions with other players. Deeds resell at full value.

What yakka said. Also, gold does not weigh anything in the bank box or use up item space, so you essentially can store unlimited gold (just put it in the corner of the bank so it looks like one stack).

Using house deeds you can generally get good denomination amounts of gold for trading (plus, house deeds are newbied).

For taste ID, "taste" is the keyword.
