I actually just used excel like you, except instead of copying-pasting the cell data I took a screenshot and cropped it. One of the default background fill colours just happens to match the forum post background colour exactly (pure luck, haha). Upload to imgur and use the "<img>image url</img>" to embed it in the post but with square brackets instead of the angle brackets.
