Hey man hows it going? So glad you have decided to play on the server!!
As far as making some cash with complete newbie characters your best bet is going to be sheering some sheep and selling it to the tailor or making a miner and mining ingots selling them to the npc's etc. Like you said there is no economy really atm so if your going to make a gathering/profession type character your gonna have to take the plunge and sell to npcs for some fast cash.
Or you can sheer sheep and turn that into bandaids and start a melee character. Id probably start a character with 50 musicianship/50 provo macro that to gm using razor if you need some help with some macros, I personally sort of suck at making macros in razor but its not that hard to figure out. After you gm that while you've wondered around sheer sheep at yew stables(three stables) and random sheep in the woods. Get some gold and go to the vendor and train your weapon skill and tactics anat healing all that then constantly sheer sheep and macro healing etc
Once your done with all of that you can go dex/provo stuff and make some decent cash off liches or drakes and dragons with little to no magic resist hince the provocation.
