Housing Security Tips - Ziggy - 06-18-2015 Housing Security tips
This post is to hopefully serve as a guide to help players keep their homes from being looted. The first thing you need to know as a new home owner is to never keep your key on you. Having your rune to your house and the key in your backpack is basically like inviting thieves to come on in and take your hard earned goods. Place your key in a SECURE chest on the steps to your house this way it is only accessible to you and those you have co-owned or friended. You can change the house locks at any time and get a new key by double clicking the house sign, selecting options, then choosing change the house locks. [You can no longer place anything on steps so the secure container no longer works. Instead put your key on a key ring obtained at a tinker Npc and place down 3 tables, a spell book, and then the key ring. Lock down the key ring and remove the tables and spell book.] Keep in mind that those who are friended or co-owned to your new home have access to your locked down and secured containers so choose wisely about who you give those privileges to. Co-owners also have the ability to release locked down items and move them. Okay so you accidentally forgot to put the key back in your secure container, left home and someone got your key now what? Or maybe you just forgot to re-lock the doors altogether. Don’t worry there is still a way to keep those hungry house looters out and protect your loot. The most commonly used technique to keep unwanted visitors out is the table barrier pictured below with a trash barrel. Owners and co-owners can break the trash barrel with an axe and replace it to get into the house. Tables can even be replaced with chest or other objects that cannot be walked through. Always make sure items are at least 1 tile away from tables or they can still be looted if not secured or locked down. Below is a few different placements for table barriers in a patio house. It is very important to make sure your barrier is placed correctly because otherwise if someone gets a ghost in your house they may be able to resurrect them and still loot you. Detect hidden can also be used in a house by any owner, co-owner or friend with 0 skill and will reveal any person hidden within your house. Hopefully this helps some If anyone sees anything I missed or anything else that is helpful please feel free to post it. |
