By bowcrafting... I white tail bow hunt and it is common practice to have them serviced, strings repaired etc. Thanks! (For role-playing and balance purposes compared to other weapons) thanks!

A fact that might not be well known, heavy crossbows are actually repairable via blacksmithy.
