If you use the forums to check the shard activity, then you should check the Discord channel.

Yep. But the problem with that is. New people find this place by the website not the discord.

They see the forum, and it is dead. So they assume the shard is dead and move on.

What we need is something on the main page that lets new players know that the community primarily communicates on Discord, and that the forum is more like an archive.
