Hmm, you should never fail at GM detect. I just tried it and was detecting every trap within the radius every time. Care to show me how you are doing it?

Click the blue dot to activate the power, target the trapped chest. I'm on with Shiv right now in Deceit if you want to jump in and put a trap on a container.

I have fixed a couple of bugs with detect hidden. Level 1-2 dungeon chests can now be correctly detected.
You will also be able to detect a trap on an item in your backpack when you target it. There was a bad bit of code which made this impossible if your skill was higher than 50.
This will be in effect from the next patch.
